About the Doctors
Eric J. Hughes, D.M.D., M.S.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Hughes received a Bachelor of Science degree from Birmingham-Southern College where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry where he was the recipient of the David F. Greer Scholarship. Dr. Hughes then completed a general practice residency at the Birmingham VA Medical Center and received a Master of Public Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He then obtained a Master of Science in Dentistry while completing his orthodontic specialty training at Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry in Cleveland, Ohio. While at Case Western, Dr. Hughes received the B. Holly Broadbent Award for Outstanding Research.
Dr. Hughes and his wife, Sara, are active in church and enjoy tennis, biking, basketball, and softball.
Robert M. Amason, D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Amason graduated from Millsaps College with his undergraduate degree before attending the University of Tennessee Dental and Orthodontic Schools for his dental degree and orthodontic specialty training. Following his education, Dr. Amason served in the U.S. Air Force.
Dr. Amason is a member of the 6th District Dental Society, Alabama Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists.
He was born in Jackson, MS and currently lives in Tuscaloosa, AL with his wife. He and his wife have three daughters, all graduates of Samford University, and a son, who attended Auburn University before graduating from the University of Alabama. Dr. Amason is very active in the College Department of Calvary Baptist Church and is involved in medical missions and an ongoing prison ministry. He denies having a green thumb, and attributes his beautiful rose garden to knowledge passed down from his father and lots of TLC.
